Picture
yourself amidst the ruins of an ancient Mayan jungle city,
overgrown with luxuriant vegetation and sheltered by the
protective transparent bowl of a vast dome.
As you explore forest paths and tree-canopy walkways,
you are surrounded by a dazzling kaleidoscope of fluttering
tropical butterflies…..
This is a glimpse of the butterfly world
effect. The cathedral-like tropical dome is only one facet
of butterfly world – a vast and
varied complex including 26 acres of painstakingly restored
British wildlife habitats, dedicated to the celebration
and conservation of the world’s butterfly and moth
species.
By introducing visitors
to the fabulous wealth of the world’s flora and
fauna, and by explaining the threats that assail our natural
environment from all directions, butterfly world
is primarily designed to educate the public about the
urgency of these problems.
Designed in the shape of a giant butterfly’s head,
with the dome as its multi-faceted eye, a curling proboscis-
shaped wildflower meadow and double antennae raised walks,
this is a butterfly world seen through
a butterfly’s eye – set to become a national
iconic landmark, advancing the cause of conservation.
